View Penang Hill

Location, Location, Location…..Just off the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia is Penang which is also known as “Pearl of the Orient”. We went to the Ayer Itam Station so we could travel up to the PENANG HILL which is 2700ft above sea level and provides a spectacular panoramic view of Penang. The journey takes about 30minutes and there is a lot to see along the way…. Things like orchids, tropical plant life, and monkeys sitting by the rail or leaping tree to tree…..the furry creatures kind of freaked me out…. Needless to say, I didn’t sit next to the window and Luis was kind enough to point out some monkeys copulating or as I like to say “getting their freak on.” Thanks! Luis for that educational moment…Anywho, further up the hill we saw mansions with very well kept gardens. Andrea said when she wins the lotto, she is going to buy one…..looking forward to visiting her when that happens.

Kek Lok Si Temple

We also visited the KEK LOK SI TEMPLE while in the area…. It is the largest and one of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful Buddhist temples that sits on a hill in Ayer Itam. It was an amazing site to see… there were a number of praying halls and several statues of Buddha. The most impressive feature was the seven-storey pagoda. We gave a donation so we could go up to the top of the pagoda for the great view. After all that touring around, we worked up an appetite….and you know me, I am all about the food…. and the drink.

Anyway, we were told that Penang is famous for its CHAR KOAY TEOW (made with flat rice noodles stir fried with prawns/egg/chicken/sprouts and chives) so we went along GURNEY DRIVE area, well known for its hawkers stalls that assemble in a large outdoor food court, for a bite to eat. We stopped at a little coffee shop named Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa that is famous for its Char Koay Teow. I only had a couple prawns so I grabbed a couple from Luis when he wasn’t looking and I had to bribe Andrea with a prawn so she would keep her pie hole shut…it didn’t matter…. Luis noticed the missing prawns so he told me that I had to buy him a beer later to make up for the loss….I bought him two since he was such a good sport about sharing…. Last time I sneak some food from that guy.

Overall, it was a great day….looking forward to taking in some night life action….
